Staff at Crewe based housing provider, Wulvern are packing up their tools to work in the African heat for the ‘One Brick at a Time’ project.
The project is an international partnership led by Chester and District Housing Trust offering exciting opportunities in the Rwenzori region of Uganda for those skilled in roofing, bricklaying, plastering and electrics.
One Brick at a Time creates opportunity by bringing together colleagues from various organisations based in the UK, to work alongside Ugandan construction trainees, graduates and teachers.
Tradesmen Russell Tagg and Lyndon Clarke are the first two members of staff who will be jetting off in February utilising their construction skills to work in partnership with schools, using locally sourced materials and appropriate technologies to refurbish educational facilities creating inspiring, clean and safe learning environments. Four other colleagues will follow later in the year.
Wulvern already works in partnership with Chester and District Housing Trust as part of the Cheshire Housing Consortium.
Sue Lock, Chief Executive of Wulvern said: “As well as providing much-needed skilled labour, this is a life-changing opportunity for my colleagues.”
The project has already made a significant impact with construction activity having taken place at three primary and one secondary schools and directly improving the learning environment for over 2,000 children.
